Manti-La
Sal National Forest
Three's a charm in
Manti-La Sal National Forest in southeastern Utah. Composed of
three unique land ecosystems - alpine, plateau, and red rock canyon
- thrill seekers, solitude cravers, and nature lovers find that
it adds up to year-round recreation.
The forest is home
to the beautiful La Sal Range, where 12,000 foot peaks provide
the dramatic visual backdrop to the hot red-rock landscape.
It's down in the midst
of the red-rock zone where you'll find Manti-La Sal's marquee
attraction: Moab. This, of course, is the town that mountain biking
built. Enthusiasts from across the world flock to Moab to test
themselves on its famous trails and routes.
Beyond bicycles, Manti-La
Sal has streams to fish, petroglyphs and stone dwellings to view,
unique geology to explore, national recreation trails to hike,
lakes to camp beside, ghost towns to visit, elk herds to watch,
and snowmobile and cross-country trails to travel.
Project
Area: Buckhorn Wash, San Rafael Swell (located east of
Castle Dale, Utah), including Price BLM wilderness area.
Project
Description: Tamarisk (invasive species) removal along
the Buckhorn Wash. Each day of work will push the Tamarisk invasion
back 30 years.
Recreational
Opporunities: Green River float trips, national parks,
dinosaur quarry and museums, fishing, mountain biking, and whitewater
rafting.
